Keeping H status for the Primary applicant (H1B) may sometime act as 'failover pair' ... But in these days of Highend Retrogression (specially if you are from India/China/Mexico) getting a GC would take 7-10 years - does it makes sense staying in H1 even for the Primary ??? .... I mean personally i've lived ( read 'did slavery') in US for sponsoring employees in H1 for 8 years and i wish to keep H1 as 'failover pair' but doing another 2nd term of slavery of 8 years till GC approval/denial comes - that makes no sense at all. Its a 'No-Brainer' ....
Moreover the depends - peoples who are new in this country 2-3 years and got EAD due to July Fiasco they can still continue H1 game but folks who already lived 6-7 years on H1B they can easily go to market and play... But if you invoke the EAD status, you will forever lose your H1b. If anything goes wrong with your pending I-485 and you are still on an H1b, you still have time to appeal and to work through the issues. But if you are on the EAD at this time, then thats it, you have no time left because your EAD is issued to you as conditional approval of your pending I-485. You need to weigh the risks and benefits in taking a job with an employer who will not sponsor you on an H1b.

Oracle applications, Oracle financials, Siebel, SAP are good fields to enter. Data warehousing is hot and a lot of people get trained. Consulting companies have fulltime trainers and there are a lot of courses you can take.
These are good end points. Start a little more basic to get good underpinnings.
I think, also, that if you don't know what you want to do, go for a BSc. in computer sci. If you do, take specific courses.
For system Admin, I'd recommend Redhat.com's courses. The world is going Linux. Play with it and mess it up. Re-install. All part of the fun. Hack some Bash/Perl scripts.
For coding I'd learn C first. Get good with pointers etc. Then learn Object Orientated PHP or Java. C isn't the easiest of languages, true. If you have problems, fall back to BASIC.
PHP and Java will get you started with web stuff and databases fairly quickly too. Start with Mysql. Then Postgresql. That'll get you ready for Oracle (the database) and you can then learn the applications that run on it.

Hmmmm - laws are generally framed with generic thumb rules. They cannot be addressed to specific stuff. Visass and restrictions are based on needs and demands and not moods and whims. If USA needs software engineers, then they frame laws to get software engineers - they do not target consulting companies - remember it is we who have issues with consulting companies and it is upto those having issues to deal with them
But if they want CIR then we cannot be on anti immigant side. If we sit on anti side we loose what ever we will get in CIR. We can educate lawmakers to add more stuff for us in CIR. I dont think we can be priority when this CIR things will start.. we had only chance for last year that we lost. ( HR 5882 ). As CIR storm begins in next year it will be in our favor to go with it.. Even if your employer revokes I-140 the PD is locked - Make sure you have a Copy of 140 approval Receipt Notice and a copy of the Labor PD. When you file new GC or 485 application just ask your company's lawyer to slip in the old 140 instead of new 140.
This is a real cool feature but make sure you have to maintain H status all the time - i'm here for 9 yrs and whenever i think about these maverick cool steps i stop at the point of H transfer , extension and fear of getting H denied.
If employer revokes I-140 (even after 180 days) and I-485 get denied, you lose your old PD. So it's not set in stone.

This is what we are doing every day. Our team & QGA are in constant touch with the offices of several senators. We are definitely concentrating on the 2 senators you have named here. I do have same query since I got a offer from teksystem and not sure if i join them would i be in the same trouble during AC21. Can i even do AC21, what should i do.
Anyone please advice, what happens if i join this contract position, leaving my perm job since they are not able to give me projects and not paying either. So later on once this contract is over and if I join a perm job, will there be any questions if I do not do AC21 now.

Even if tomorrow DOL will process all its backlog of 180K applications and INS issue pending however-many-GC applications pending (I believe I heard a # of 500K including those 180K they are expecting to get from the DOL) it won't affect the housing market a bit.

WTF are you talking about, man??? It was said hundreds times: once one use EAD, h(is|er) H(1|4) is GONE!!! Per my lawyer, if you filed H1 extension before expiration, you are ok, in this case ext. filing date make sense.
H1 status does end when you use the EAD, but that does not mean that you can never ever go back to H1. By getting a new petition, or your extension approved, and possibly having to re-enter the US, you can reactivate the H1 anytime. Its not all a one-way street.

CitiBank recently launched their Online Remit service. I used it for the first time last week and the exchange rate offered was best of all other services. Their fee is a flat $1 for any amount transferred. I did the same amount transfer at the same time with Citi as well as Remit2India and I got 16 Paise per $ more with Citi.
Keep in mind, every new business tries to offer best services in the beginning to attract customers and I suspect it will be same with Citi too. So their rates may be great now but could be whole different story in few months. They also disclose in the fine print that the exchange rate offered includes conversion commission.
If I were to order my preference on a permanent basis I would rank SBI, Citi, Remit2India, ICICI and then Western.

Take an Infopass appointment and tell them that you have not received FP notice. Sometimes taking infopass appt helps. So you can try that option.

If you are 100% sure that your old 140 was not revoked by your previous employer, it can be useful in 2 ways. Contact your old employer to verify that still they have job for you as per the 140. If so, file new 485 with that 140 as it has very old PD. As you might have missed the finger printing in 2002, your previous 485 might have been denied. But 140 is still vaild for indefinite period.
If your old employer is not offering a job to file new 485, start new GC process with your new employer and port your priority date from your old approved 140.

What your lawyer says in incorrect. I have had my visa stamped successfully only for 3 months validity in the past. Even this time I have only 2 months left (until Feb 2008) but am still going for stamping. So do not worry. As long as you have one more day left, you can get it stamped. Good luck.
